Today was another driving day…and another rainy one at that. However, it wasn’t too bad, I was able to sleep in and have a nice long chat with my mother and I leisurely left my B&B around noon…after I was basically kicked out by my host. I thought I had until 12 to leave, but apparently it was really 10 and they were anxious to get cleaning my room. Thankfully I had really tidied up behind myself, so I am hopeful that it wasn’t too bad…sigh.
I drove further up the west coast, which is a rugged and wild place. I have heard on a number of occasions that the west coast has its own weather system, and it is true. Like yesterday, it was on again off again rain throughout the entire day, making for a very boisterous and brown sea. I did stop at Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks) for a nice little look around.
Then it was back on the road to Westport and then I headed east…mostly. It was again a beautiful drive through the low mountains on a twisty road. My GPS stopped working through the area, and I actually ended up taking a fork in the road one too soon, UGH! I actually went almost an hour out of my way and when I stopped to check where I was I was incredulous…I had to actually turn around and go all the way back. I was still a couple of hours away from my destination. While the country was nice to look at once, I didn’t really need to have the same view twice. Fortunately, it was not a really twisty road, but just made a long day on rainy roads all the longer. Nonetheless, I made it to my B&B in the middle of a vineyard, am looking forward to a whole new day tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be good in the morning…yay, I am going swimming with the dolphins!
