Today is Sunday, a day of rest…and boy am I glad of it. I started the day off by going to church in Queenstown, a little tiny branch (I would have expected a larger congregation for so large a town) at 10am which meets in a converted house out by the airport. The trip into Queenstown from Kingston (where I am staying) is about 30 mins drive along the lake front. It is spectacular and feels very familiar to the many mountains with lakes that I have grown up around. However, it is still just slightly different in the flora…but it is breathtaking. At church, the mission president and his wife spoke and there was a man who had just been baptized the day before. Also visiting as tourists, were the Joneses, from Dallas…they were just recently the Dallas Temple president and course they know all my good buddies, Dayle, Julie and others. It was fun to connect with them. Very few people in the small congregation were actually from NZ. There were a few from the states, a guy from South Africa, Brazil, Tonga and others. I would imagine that missionary work here is challenging…but they were so inviting and lovely. We actually held our Sunday school and RS/PR outside in the lovely sunshine…accompanied by birdsong, of course. Though I was really longing to be inside where the 7 children or so were singing my favorite primary songs a cappella.
After church I drove into town and found a roast lamb and potatoes take away place (highly rated on trip advisor) and bought the entire shoulder…that’s all they sell…and took it to the local city gardens where I sat on a bench eating a delicious Sunday dinner. It was a little shy of green veggies, but it was delish!
After a walk around the gardens I headed back to Kingston for the night to get well rested for tomorrow...and the jet boating and bungy jumping! WOOHOO
